The Car Weaning Process

One of the earlier posts regarding the situation with gas prices discussed the slow transition from a commuting way of doing business to a telecommuting way of doing business. This car weaning process is something that people might want to go through just so that the transition to telecommuting is made a lot easier. Well, for people that are interested in another way of weaning yourself off your car, there is another way that you can go through the car weaning process.
It’s called carpooling and it is something that people have been doing for a very long time. Simply put, carpooling is the process of splitting driving responsibilities between four or five different people. The standard car can fit five people, so if five employees get together and carpool to work in the same car, what it essentially means is that a person only has to drive to work in their own car once a week. This in turn means that they could theoretically put off transitioning from their car vis-à-vis work until gas prices rose by another five times and this is precisely why it is one of the natural short term solutions to the current energy crisis.
