Science Buddies is looking for a Part-Time Physical Science Content Developer:
**Applicants must live near the San Francisco Bay Area. Although this is a telecommute job, the employee will be expected to attend a meeting in person about once every 6 weeks.**
Science Buddies is a Bay Area-based non-profit organization that provides Web-based tools and mentoring for K-12 students who are doing science fair projects. In 2007, five million students and teachers will visit our website for help. One of our most popular resources is our online library of “Project Ideas” that offer unique and challenging topics for science experiments. These Project Ideas are intended to present information in such a way as to captivate the interest of middle and high school students and/or teachers in search of science experiments. Each Project Idea is designed to:
• Attract the student and capture his or her imagination
• Provide enough background information and guidance to get the student off to a great start
• Suggest variations on the primary idea, so that the student has plenty of room for creativityWe are seeking a writer/content developer to author Project Ideas specifically in areas falling under the umbrella of physical science. Responsibilities:
• This position involves writing, editing, and project management
• Work in a wide variety of scientific and engineering disciplines
• Simplify sometimes intimidating topics to make them accessible to students and teachers without losing sight of key science terms and concepts
• Edit and revise existing project ideas to improve relevance and scientific learningMinimum Qualifications:
• BS in an area of physical science or engineering
• Experience writing/editing scientific or technical material
• A passion for science and developing content that will engage students of all ages
• Must have excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
• Must be detail oriented and possess a high level of research skill for extracting hard to find information from source materials
• Must be self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
• Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel as well as experience using the Internet to conduct online research
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Basic HTML skills a plus
• Well-equipped home office with high-speed Internet connectionHours and Schedule:
