Motivating Your Employees

As a business owner, one of the major challenges that you are going to face is the challenge of properly motivating the employees that you have working under you. A business is only as good as the people that work for it and when those workers are highly productive, the business is ultimately the better for it. The only way to keep workers productive however is to keep employee morale high and that requires motivation of the people that work underneath you.
There are many different ways that you could potentially motivate your employees. Employee functions is an obvious way for motivation to creep your employees as they meet each other socially and start to get to know each other better. Employee perks such as the rotating use of tickets to sporting events or shows are also excellent ways to motivate your employees to work better. Basically, anything that you can do to make your employees happy is a good way to motivate them at work.
The one thing you need to keep in mind when considering this however is the price that is involved. While there is nothing wrong with motivating your employees, if the motivational tactic that you use is not covered by the increased productivity, then from a business standpoint it is a bad move to make. So make a list of different motivational tactics you could use, evaluate their costs and go with the one that has the best cost to effect ratio.

i agree with you. motivating your employees can be costly but if costs more than what it gives back, then drop that strategy because it is obviously not helpful.
in my human resource management class, i’ve learned that an option is to talk to your employees and ask them what they want or what they need to perform better and you give it them, provided that you can afford what they are asking for. sometimes, getting a direct answer from your employees is easier than trying out different ways that can probably be useless and very costly for the company.
