Ghost of A Chance
New Hope is a sophisticated country town along side the Delaware River. New Hope has many, historic places that have ghost stories attached to them and these places add to the blend of history surrounding New Hope Pennsylvania. One of the oldest attractions that people may be aware of, but few have seen, are ghosts lingering in many places like Phillips Mill, Pickett House, Logan Inn, Odette’s Restaurant, and the Van Sant Bridge.
- Logan Inn has a definite reputation for being haunted and four ghosts live there. If you stay in room 6, you might see a man’s reflection in the mirror, which disappears when you look around. Two children are also said to have stayed in the same room from time to time. A Revolutionary War Soldier wanders around the rooms including the bar, the basement and dining room. In the parking lot, a little girl lurks in the shadows was known to have drown some time ago.
- Odette’s restaurant, used to be called the River House, served boatmen in the late 18th Century. It has been known for ghostly occurrences of a woman who was murdered during that time period. There are many chilled moments of hearing load, shrilling voices that are accompanied by strong smells of perfume.
- Van Sant Bridge is an old covered bridge where one can hear a baby cry. The story is said to be about a young woman without a husband but had a baby was thrown out of her parent’s house. The father of the baby left her and she became severely depressed. One day, she decided to jump off of the Van Sant Bridge, with the baby in her arms. The legend says that if you stand on the bridge, you can hear her baby cry.
These ghost stories of New Hope are plentiful and intriguing. But to visit these places and see and hear ghostly situations first hand is a ghostly experience for new hope locals and tourists.
