The headlines are heating up and most of them are not about business or computer at this point. Today, Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao scored a monumental victory by defeating the great Oscar Dela Hoya handily and cementing his hold as one of the best boxers of our time.
There was no doubt that the match defied all the odds and a lot of people lost in the bets which saw Dela Hoya having the better of it. But while all that is over, Manny Pacquiao may do well to consider the options of his career after pocketing $11 million from the fight alone. Once the pay-per-view shares come in this is expected to skyrocket. And this does not include the ads (did you see his trunks?) that sponsored the Pacman.
So if you were Manny Pacquiao, what would you do with all that money? Would you still fight for more? If so, would you fight for money or for pride?
We have seen a lot of boxers go the path of turning from wealthy people to beggars. Some of them end up with brain damage from the beating they have. For Manny Pacquiao, he may be wise to consider options such as slowing down or even retiring while he is at the top of the world. There is nothing more to prove other than to give in to the demands of other boxers who want to get a piece of glory and history.
Pacquiao is not getting any younger. He is a father as well and while he is already an accomplished individual, health is something that cannot be taken for granted.
Sorry to disappoint a lot of fans and boxers like Juan Manuel Marquez. The Pacman must evaluate his status. What could still make him want to get more than what he has already accomplished in the ring?
