Tit for Tat Business Strategy

It has long been known that cooperation is one of the best ways for multiple people to accomplish their goals, combining resources and manpower in order to achieve a final result that is better for everyone than any one company could ever have achieved on their own. This can then be tied into conventional game theory, which utilizes strategies of constantly cheating your partners, constantly being truthful with your partners and then treating the next partner as you were treated in the previous exchange. That third strategy, known as the Tit for Tat strategy, always seems to come out on top in terms of the associative trials that are run.

What makes Tit for Tat so successful is that while it attempts to be as cooperative as possible, it also attempts to take into account the fact that other people will be immoral in their dealings with you. If everyone acts morally however, the Tit for Tat strategy simply becomes a long string of moral dealings in which case it simply becomes the truthful strategy. If you needed a good reason to be moral in all of your business dealings, then consider the Tit for Tat strategy in that ideal setting. There is no better illustration as to what being good can do not only for your company, but for the business world as a whole.

Mark Zuckerberg Facebook

It is perhaps a bit incongruous to think of Facebook as being something that is behind the times, but when you stop to consider things more closely, it actually makes quite a bit of sense. Facebook is in a sector of the economy that changes faster than anything else ever conceived and because of that the stuff that Facebook has as part of their website has the potential to become obsolete at a much faster pace than Microsoft or any of the other first wave computer companies.

The top dog at Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, said exactly that when speaking at a conference about digital technology. He said that Facebook would be creating a whole new look in order to easier facilitate the steadily growing amount of content they have on their website and he even went so far as to say that the boxes look that Facebook is so famous for would be one of the first casualties in the quest to create a website that is much better at collating, cataloguing and filtering through all of the massive amounts of content that the website now contains.

So what does this mean for the average Facebook user? Probably nothing anytime soon, but it could mean that your surfing experience will get a lot more interesting when the new design has been completed.

Tax Returns

While the Democratic Party candidates are busy knocking the stuffing out of each other in their nomination race, John McCain is running through a number of different actions designed to make him look more open and honest, insofar as that is possible for a politician of any stripe. As part of this, his wife has released her tax returns from 2006, which indicate an overall income of $6 million in that calendar year.

Most of the income that contributed to the $6 million figure came in from investments in real estate and family trust funds, which in turn resulted in her paying a total of $1.7 million in taxes across that whole income amount. It was rather easy to track this in terms of Cindy McCain’s taxes because of the fact that both husband and wife have signed a prenuptial agreement that prevents them from combining income information in the way that many other couples would normally do.

Ultimately, there were parts of her income that came from wages, but they amounted to a very small $300,000 amount when compared with the overall income that she reported. These types of wages have been taxed at 35% ever since the Bush tax cuts went through and under McCain’s plan to make them permanent, that would be the going rate from now on.

GM BuildingWhile everyone in the business world knows just how financially in trouble General Motors happens to be right now, at the same time the selling of the GM Building on the part of the Macklowe family is something that perhaps brings it home to those of us that are outside of the highest echelons of business looking in. GM has been an American bastion for such a long time that many likely had an overly romanticized view of the company; a view that has really been shattered by events such as this one.

The Macklowe family sold the building along with three others to a group of buyers that include famous real estate and news mogul Mortimer Zuckerman, famed American company Goldman Sachs and the governments of the Middle Eastern nations of Qatar and Kuwait. All totalled, the four partners in the deal paid $2.9 billion for the GM building and almost $4 billion for all of the buildings put together. While the $2.9 billion figure is a record setter, it is also a victory for the buyers as debt problems on the part of the Macklowe family likely ended up forcing them to settle for a lower amount than they were initially thinking.

Career Path

For most yuppies, aiming high will always be their main concern. Some dream of being executives and chief officers of certain companies some day and the real path towards achieving these dreams depends on the dedication and motivation that they implant in their minds.

These dreams are not impossible. In fact they can be attainable. All you have to do is limit your outlook towards realistic achievements. Some people aim to reach the top at the soonest and at any cost. Gathering experience or even taking up further training or studies such as a masters degree is a good step to that direction. But do remember not to lose focus.

It may seem frustrating at times but that is really a test of character. If at that point you fail to realize the real purpose of these things, then you need to ask yourself once again your real purpose for your career.

Office Relationships and Affairs

In an office setting, you are bound to meet new people who come from various origins as well. While it is best to keep it professional, emotional involvement and affairs cannot be avoided. This includes single and married employees who suddenly find themselves involved with one another and even a cause for divorces and separations we see in society today.

But while that is a given, companies also have policies concerning these immoral acts. Most companies condemn these acts of immorality and normally, these will be tackled for discussion which will eventually lead to dishonorable dismissal from work.

The workplace is indeed a battlefield that can lead you to varying directions. But do remember, you have a life to live and supposed families to sustain. If your sole purpose, which is to earn a living, is suddenly redirected then consider the possibility of killing your career and getting to that much longed comfortable life people are working up to.

New Job Employee

There will be times where you will find rough sailing as far as adjusting to a new office environment. For most new employees, the need to be able to cope up with the ideal working environment is always a problem that needs to be addressed. For most, it may be easier said than done but apparently you will only sum it all to nearing the point of quitting at that very moment.

But such issues are only normal and it would be nice to extensively see at which point you can be able stick to your current job. It may not be easy considering factors such as mental anguish will set in but perhaps with these tips, you can consider broadening your line of thinking before making a final decision as far as your career path is concerned.

1. Assess the Situation (and Yourself)

There are a lot of different reasons why your new job may seem less than ideal. Perhaps your boss is a micromanager. Maybe your duties are different than what you’d thought they’d be. Or a client may have jumped ship, leaving you and your coworkers suddenly scrambling. Consider what’s making you miserable before taking any kind of action.

2. Open a Dialogue

If your supervisor seems happy with your performance while you’re not happy in the position, it may be very easy to start a conversation about what’s making you miserable. She may be willing to shift your responsibilities or provide you with additional support.

3. Patience Is a Virtue

When Berger works with clients who fear they’ve made a mistake in accepting a new job, she reminds them, “It takes three to six months until you’re comfortable in a new job. There are going to be growing pains, especially if you haven’t started a new job in a long time.”

4. If You Leave…

Do you still feel like you have to leave? Berger tells workers to ask themselves, “Is this a perceived nightmare or a real nightmare? If you’re a victim of verbal or physical abuse at work, no one should have to live that way.”
