Recruiter of executed drug mule appears at DOJ
MANILA, Philippines (PNA) – The alleged recruiter of executed Filipina drug mule Sally Ordinario-Villanueva on Monday appeared before the Department of Justice (DOJ) following the summon sent to her for large-scale illegal recruitment and violation of Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2008.
Tita Cacayan was escorted by members of the National Bureau of Investigation-Reaction, Arrest and Interdiction Division (NBI-RAID). Last week, she sought the protective custody of the NBI after receiving threats following Villanueva’s execution.
Villanueva and two compatriots were convicted of drug trafficking by the Supreme People’s Court of the People’s Republic of China and were sentenced to die by lethal injection.
At the DOJ, Cacayan also personally received another subpoena requiring her to answer a complaint for kidnapping and transportation of drugs filed by Jason Ordinario, the brother of Villanueva.
“You are hereby notified to appear on the scheduled hearing and then and there to submit and swear before me, your counter-affidavit and other supporting evidences if any. You are further directed to bring with you your witness for the above purpose,” the subpoena signed by Asst. State Prosecutors Stewart Allan Mariano and Michael Vito Cruz said.
Villanueva and Ramon Credo were executed last March 30 at Xiemen, Chiina, while Elizabeth Batain, in Shenzhen.
Prior to her execution, Villanueva identified Cacayan as the source of drugs she carried to China.
Villanueva said that it was Cacayan who recruited her for a job in Xiamen and claimed it was the latter who provided her the suitcase she used for her travel.
She said she was not aware that the suitcase contained more than 4,000 grams of illegal drugs.
